The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State for the
Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, today announced a
$236,000 investment towards year-round facilities at Camp
Medley.
“The Government of Canada, through the Economic Action
Plan, is taking steps to stimulate the economies of
communities hit hard by the economic slowdown. This
investment of $236,000 will benefit the surrounding
communities of Camp Medley by providing accessible space
for meetings and functions during the off-season, as well
as improving the quality of facilities for campers,” said
Minister Ashfield.
The Diocese of Fredericton, through its Camp Medley
operations, will upgrade existing facilities and construct
new multi-use buildings. Upgrades will improve
accessibility and provide refurbished infrastructure for
campers, workers and local business and community groups.
The new buildings include space for business and community
activities such as meetings, training, retreats, and events
and will remain open throughout the year, extending the
operating season for the facility.
“When government and the community work together, wonderful
things happen,” said Archbishop Claude Miller of the
Diocese of Fredericton. “Camp Medley has participated in
the development and formation of generations of young New
Brunswickers. In partnership with the federal government,
we will complete the refurbishment of the camp and continue
to nurture and support young people and the whole community
for many generations to come.”
Funding for this project was provided through the Atlantic
Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) under the Community
Adjustment Fund (CAF). Canada’s Economic Action Plan
provides $1 billion over two years for the CAF, which will
help create jobs and maintain employment in affected
communities. In Atlantic Canada, CAF is delivered by ACOA.
