ARGYLE AND YARMOUTH RECEIVE FUNDING FOR CONTAMINATED SOIL TREATMENT FACILITY
Brooklyn, Nova Scotia

The municipalities of Yarmouth and Argyle and the Town of Yarmouth will soon be able to treat contaminated soil for reuse.

Federal, provincial and municipal funding of $546,000 was announced today for the construction of a contaminated soil treatment facility at the regional solid waste park in South Ohio.

The funding, which is being provided through the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund, was announced today by the Honourable Richard Hurlburt, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations and MP Greg Kerr, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs.

“Treated the contaminated soil locally protects our environment and is more cost-effective,” said Minister Hurlburt. “This is another fine example of our communities becoming more environmentally sustainable. A green future starts with planning and projects we put in place today”

“Through projects such as this, the Government of Canada is demonstrating its commitment to building strong, vibrant competitive communities while ensuring a clean environment,” said MP Kerr. Under the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund, the federal, provincial and municipal governments anticipate investing upwards of $111 million in infrastructure projects in smaller, communities across Nova Scotia, between now and 2014.

“Today’s investment enables communities to move forward with important infrastructure projects,” said Lloyd Hines, president of the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities. “We will continue to work with our federal and provincial partners to find long term solutions to our infrastructure needs."

Federal, provincial and municipal funding of five- hundred and forty-six thousand dollars was announced today for a contaminated soil treatment facility at the regional solid waste park in South Ohio. The funding is being provided through the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund.

The announcement was made in Brooklyn by Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister Richard Hurlburt and Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova.

Under the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund, the federal, provincial and municipal governments anticipate investing upwards of $111 million in infrastructure projects in smaller communities across Nova Scotia, between now and 2014.
