MEMRAMCOOK TO UPGRADE WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITIES WITH INVESTMENT FROM CANADA-NEW BRUNSWICK MUNICIPAL RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE FUND
Memramcook, New Brunswick

Residents and businesses in Memramcook will soon benefit from upgraded municipal wastewater treatment facilities, thanks to an investment of more than $6.1 million through the Canada-New Brunswick Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund. The announcement was made today by Rob Moore, Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, Shawn Graham, Premier of New Brunswick and Donald LeBlanc, Mayor of Memramcook.

“Canada’s New Government is working with its partners to get things done for the people of Memramcook,” said Mr. Moore on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “Our government’s investment of more than $2 million toward these improvements of Memramcook’s wastewater treatment facilities will help to ensure a healthier environment for hundreds of local residents and businesses.”

“Investing in important infrastructure projects will improve the quality of life for residents of Memramcook, which will help us work toward our goal of self- sufficiency," Premier Graham said. "The Province of New Brunswick is proud to be a partner in this important municipal wastewater treatment system for the community project for Memramcook.”

“I am pleased to see that the three levels of government, that is federal, provincial and municipal, worked together to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Memramcook,” said Mayor LeBlanc.

The project involves the construction of a wastewater lagoon, as well as the associated collection system, to replace an existing facility. This investment will enable 414 new households and 15 new businesses to be connected to the new system, and 223 existing households will have improved wastewater treatment.

Canada’s New Government, the Province of New Brunswick and the Village of Memramcook will each contribute one third, or $2,047,978, toward the eligible costs of the project.
