VILLAGE OF HILLSBOROUGH TO IMPROVE WATER SYSTEM WITH FEDERAL AND PROVINCIAL FUNDING
Hillsborough, New Brunswick

The Village of Hillsborough will proceed with plans to improve its water system thanks to investments from Canada’s New Government, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and the Province of New Brunswick. More than $370,000 in infrastructure funding was announced today by Rob Moore, MP for Fundy-Royal on behalf of Peter MacKay, Minister of ACOA; Honourable Victor Boudreau, Minister of Finance; and Donna Mary Bennett, Mayor of Hillsborough.

“Our government is working with its partners to get things done for the people of Hillsborough,” said MP Moore. “Canada’s New Government – through ACOA – is investing almost $125,000 for the Hillsborough water system upgrade. Today’s investment will improve water quality in nearly 600 households and increase system service reliability.”

The plan will develop a new water supply for the village, and will include well-site preparation, gravel access road upgrades, pumphouse and service building construction, electrical supply extension, a chlorination system upgrade, and a performance monitoring system installation.

“We are delighted to work with our federal and municipal partners to fund this important infrastructure project for the Village of Hillsborough,” said Boudreau, speaking on behalf of Minister of Environment Roland Haché. “This project will provide the residents with an improved water system, which will have a positive impact on the quality of life and health of its residents for many years to come."

“With the approval of the $370 thousand dollar project, Hillsborough will now be able to supplement its municipal water supply with the development of this new well and improve the quantity and quality of water to our residents,” said Mayor Bennett. “We are extremely grateful for this partnership between the federal, provincial and municipal governments through the M.R.I.F. Program that made this possible.”

Each of the three funding partners will contribute one third, or $123,335, towards the eligible cost of the project.
