A $4.1 MILLION INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT AND TRI-COUNTY COMPLEX IN FREDERICTON JUNCTION
Fredericton Junction, New Brunswick

The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Regional Minister for New Brunswick; the Honourable Roly MacIntyre, Minister of Supply and Services and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation; Gary Mersereau, Mayor of Fredericton Junction; and Dr. John Richardson, Chairman of Tri-County Complex Inc., today announced that the Fredericton Junction area will get infrastructure funding of more than $4.1 million for wastewater system upgrades and the construction of the Tri-County Complex.

The Village’s twenty-eight year old wastewater treatment plant will be upgraded, thanks to an investment of $764,475. The upgrade will benefit nearly 175 families. In addition, $3,429,570 is being invested in a new Tri-County Complex, which will serve as a focal point for community activities, and offer a new cultural and meeting centre for the more than 5,000 people who live in the area.

“Canada’s New Government is working with its partners to get things done for the people of Fredericton Junction,” said Minister Thompson on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “Through our investment of nearly $1.4 million we are strengthening the community’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for families. The wastewater system upgrade and new Complex will certainly help this region to grow and prosper.”

MacIntyre said facilities for wastewater treatment and cultural activity are integral parts of any community.

“The Government of New Brunswick is proud to help fund these infrastructure projects, which will benefit area residents for many years to come,” MacIntyre said. “The treatment plant upgrades and the Tri-County Complex will make the Fredericton Junction area an even better place to live and work.”

“The Village is pleased to hear that funding for our wastewater system project and the Tri-County Complex will be made available. Our wastewater treatment system will be completely overhauled which will protect our environment. The tri-County Complex will be a tremendous asset to our community and assist in our goal of sustainable growth,” said Mayor Mersereau. “We would like to express our appreciation to the Federal and Provincial Governments for committing to funding these projects and to the members of the Tri-County Complex committee for their hard work over the years.”

“I would personally like to thank the federal and provincial governments for having the vision to commit to this well-needed facility,” said Dr. Richardson. “It is also important to note the support of the local mayors and councils along with Local Service District advisory committees and Tri-County Board members past and present for their many hours of work and dedication.”

The three funding partners for each project will contribute one third (Wastewater project: $254,825 and Tri-County Complex: $1,143,190) toward the cost to the projects.
