NACKAWIC WASTEWATER FACILITY TO BE UPGRADED
Nackawic, New Brunswick

The Town of Nackawic will proceed with plans to improve its wastewater system thanks to investments from the Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick. A total of $679,028 in infrastructure funding was announced today by Mike Allen, MP for Tobique-Mactaquac; Fredericton-Lincoln MLA Greg Byrne, who is minister of Business New Brunswick; and Robert Connors, Mayor of Nackawic.

The project will upgrade the wastewater treatment plant, which will improve the treatment of effluent for 400 households and enable the connection of new households and a commercial establishment to the wastewater system.

“Canada’s New Government is getting things done for the people of Nackawic,” said MP Allen, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “This project will allow the Town of Nackawic to upgrade its wastewater treatment system and will ensure that the community has a safe and reliable treatment facility for the future.”

Byrne said the Government of New Brunswick is pleased to help support Nackawic in upgrading its wastewater treatment plant.

Byrne spoke on behalf of provincial Environment Minister Roland Haché.

“Any improvement to a municipality’s wastewater system has a very positive impact on people’s quality of life,” Byrne said. “This project will alleviate stresses placed on the system, eliminate deficiencies and allow for future expansions of the Town of Nackawic.”

Connors said he and council are pleased to partner with the federal and provincial governments to complete the upgrade of Nackawic’s 35-year-old wastewater treatment plant.

“As mayor, and on behalf of the residents of Nackawic, thank you to everyone who helped to make this a reality,” Connors said.

Each of the three funding partners will contribute one third ($226,342) towards the eligible cost of the project.
