VILLAGE OF KEDGWICK CELEBRATES OPENING OF NEW MULTI-FUNCTIONAL CENTRE
Kedgwick, New Brunswick

The Village of Kedgwick today officially opened its new multi-functional centre for community events and activities. Representatives from all levels of government and the community gathered at the new centre today to celebrate the milestone event.

“Canada’s New Government is committed to building a strong, competitive economy in this region by investing in communities and creating an infrastructure advantage,” commented the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Regional Minister for New Brunswick, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “This multi-functional centre will help to create a positive climate for entrepreneurship, and encourage greater prosperity in the Village of Kedgwick.”

“The Province of New Brunswick is proud to invest in projects which will promote healthy living for families and members of the community,” said Supply and Services Minister Roly MacIntyre, who is also Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. Roy Boudreau, MLA for Campbellton-Restigouche Centre, appeared on behalf of Minister MacIntyre.

“We are very pleased that the government understands the needs of our community,” said Jean-Paul Savoie, Mayor of Kedgwick. “I am confident that this new facility will provide local economic and community organizations the opportunity to expand their activities, and have a significant impact on the economic and social development of this region.”

The 2,850 square foot facility near Kedgwick’s existing sports complex will offer, on an annual basis, a variety of community services and activities based on the needs of local organizations. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency invested $155,500 towards the construction of the multi- functional centre under its Innovative Communities Fund. The Province of New Brunswick and the Village of Kedgwick each provided $50,000, while the Hanagata Judo Club, which occupies the main area on the first floor of the facility, provided $35,000 towards the initiative.
