INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT PLANNED FOR CLAIR
Clair, New Brunswick

Jean-Claude D’Amours, MP for Madawaska-Restigouche; Hon. Jeannot Volpe, Minister of Finance and MLA for Madawaska- les-Lacs and Mayor of Clair Ludger Lang today announced that the Village of Clair is partnering with the federal and provincial governments under the Canada – New Brunswick Infrastructure Program to upgrade its water system. The total investment under this program will be $50,000, with each of the three funding partners contributing a third of this amount.

Work to be undertaken involves engineering related to identifying and securing a new source of water for the village.

“Initiatives such as the Canada – New Brunswick Infrastructure Program is essentially about providing smart government ,” said MP D’Amours, speaking on behalf of the Honourable Joseph McGuire, Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “Green municipal infrastructure projects, such as the one announced today in Clair, are a first priority for the federal government as they constitute the basics such as clean water and air. This is a necessity to maintain and improve the quality of life of all Canadians across the country.”

“Safe drinking water and green municipal infrastructure is important for the health and safety of New Brunswickers, and is a key priority of the Province of New Brunswick,” said Mr. Volpe, on behalf of Brenda Fowlie, Minister of the New Brunswick Department of the Environment and Local Government.

“The village of Clair is very pleased to be able to benefit from Canada-New Brunswick infrastructure Program,” said the Mayor of Clair, Mr. Ludger Lang. ”This is an important project for our community’s health and safety.” This announcement brings the total announced projects to 88.

In New Brunswick, ACOA is responsible for the implementation of the program federally, while the Department of the Environment and Local Government, in conjunction with the Regional Development Corporation, are the responsible provincial jurisdictions.
